After 20 years of successive moves and relocations due to my professional activity (including 5 years abroad) and 2 years before the end of one of my last major projects (construction of the Basque Coast Highway), my wife and I decided to have our family base on the Basque Coast, preferably in BIARRITZ.

This decision was taken in 1978 after having lived with my family for two years in a house in Biarritz, where we were tenants. This two-year stay, which was to be extended for two more years, allowed us to take the pulse of this region and the city of Biarritz in particular.

After 6 months of research, we realized our wish by buying a house in a district of BIARRITZ that we judged to be in the process of becoming and that corresponded to the criteria that we had set for the purchase of our main family residence. We decided to demolish the house we bought and to rebuild a house that would meet our needs and wishes. This procedure, which included requests for demolition and reconstruction permits and the construction of a new house, took 18 months. We occupied our residence on January 1, 1980.

    WHY the BASQUE COAST ?

Arrived on the spot in 1976, we noted that this area of the Basque Coast, and Biarritz in

In particular, they lived intensely only 3 months a year, during the summer vacations.

However, some clues suggested to visionary and optimistic people (a little commenous …) that there was a potential in the making and that we had to be patient.

    What were these premises?

First, and foremost, the resources resulting from the presence of the Atlantic Ocean, such as surfing and thalassotherapy. The numerous existing golf courses and the prospects of projects made this region one of the leading golfing regions in France.

The presence of an international airport in the heart of the city, the completion of the Basque Coast freeway, which was the missing link between the north of France and Spain, and the prospect of the future TGV (high-speed train), constitute the major infrastructures that are essential for the development of a region.

From an industrial point of view, this region has factories linked to the aeronautical development of Airbus. They bring jobs that require specific training that is interesting for the development of employment.

Finally, and above all, it is necessary to recognize that this region has an invaluable quality of life in our time.

    WHY BIARRITZ ?

Independently of the general conditions above, very subjective, but important in a choice of life in a region, we had our personal and family criteria that we had set, to verify to validate our choice of installation in Biarritz.

    – 1 – Professionally

The professional activity that I carry out requires indispensable travel, numerous and

    sometimes long .

    – By plane

+ The airport of Biarritz allows to connect Paris several times a day, as well as the cities

and European capitals such as London and Madrid.

+ The airports of Bordeaux and Toulouse, respectively at 2 H and 3 H from Biarritz,

serving the whole world are very easily accessible.

    – By the highway

+ From Biarritz, we have access to the French road network for the north of France

(Bordeaux / Paris, the West and the North-East), for the East (Toulouse and the South-East) and finally

    Spain.

    – By train

+ From the Biarritz train station we have access to the entire French network.

    – 2 – Family

The criteria taken into account in our choice of life were the following: the education of the children,

sports and leisure activities, local and regional cultural environment.

From the point of view of school education, at our arrival on the spot, Biarritz already had the

elementary school, colleges and high schools allowing access to the University of Bordeaux or to

    higher education.

The interest of our establishment is that these teaching structures are located at 5 mn on foot

    of our house.

From a sporting point of view, the Basque Coast and especially Biarritz, have a sporting reputation

nationally recognized: team sports, individual sports, sea, mountain, hiking.

Everything is possible in this country.

From the point of view of leisure, the region is particularly spoiled: sea, mountain, forest, back

country, the beaches of the Basque coast (Biarritz alone has access to 5 beaches in the middle of the country)

city) the beaches of the Landes coast, etc…

From a cultural point of view

+ Biarritz has a troupe of European reputation: the MALANDIN ballets, a

media library, a center for shows and festivals: the Palais des Festivals.

+ Bayonne has a very dense cultural life: theater, cinemas, museums.

+ On the Spanish side we have in particular the Guggenheim Center in Bilbao and the

    National of San Sebastian

+ Bordeaux: who doesn’t know the cultural heritage of Bordeaux?

This house, dating from 1980, is habitable as is. It is however normal to imagine that any new occupant will wish to adapt it to his conception of life, undoubtedly to refresh it architecturally in order to update it and to optimize the arrangement.

In this spirit, with the assistance of an architect, we have realized the following two hypotheses:

1 – Arrangement of the current volumes, mainly on the ground floor + 1, to add a room

+ SdB and redo the general decoration. (see new plan of the house R+1)

2 – Creation of an additional level R + 2, bringing an additional surface

150 m2 of living space allowing the house to be reorganized by creating 3 to 4 bedrooms.

This development would bring a view on the Golf absolutely magnificent (see new plan of the house R+2).

These projects have been evaluated and are questionable, on occasion. They are independent of the base price displayed.

    Biarritz

Made famous by the European Gotha and the pioneers of surfing, Biarritz symbolizes prestige, elegance and the good life.

The point of Saint Martin separates it fromAnglet and it is on this rocky outcrop that stands the lighthouse, proud of its 73 meters.

Below is the Miramar beach which borders the prestigious Hôtel du Palais, rebuilt on the site of the villa of Empress Eugenie.

The Municipal Casino is in a prominent position on the Grande Plage, which lines up its umbrellas as far as the friendly Port des Pêcheurs. Five other beaches border Biarritz, a surfer‘s paradise.

Seen from a little further away, standing on its rock since 1865, the Viergerassurethe sailors and watch over the population that strolls to it.
Across the street is the Museum of the Sea with its fish, fossil collections and seals.

The city center invites you to shop, the boutiques follow one another and the terraces are full.
